Effective Strategies to Differentiate Reading Instruction and Maximise Students’ Reading Comprehension For Cross Curriculum and Multidisciplinary Approach

Proficient reading correlates to higher academic outcomes (Nyarko, Kugbey, Kofi, Cole & Adentwi, 2018; Bigozzi, Tarchi, Vagnoli, Valente & Pinto, 2017)) and is critical for success in today’s world. Learning to read, however, can be challenging and time-consuming. This is especially true when English is a foreign or second language, and it is used across curriculum in different subject disciplines. In this session, we will unpack the science behind teaching reading, while discovering some time-saving, technology infused resources that can be used in any K-6 classroom with any level of student for the purpose of building strong background knowledge, attaining literacy in the respective subject disciplines, and increasing reading comprehension across curriculum.
